Cookie notice

This notice explains the one cookie Subber uses, and the other ways our site uses your device.
Who we are
- Subber is run by Subber Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number to follow.
- Our registered office is to follow.
- Questions? Email hello@subber.co.uk, or use Contact Subber in the app.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser. It helps the site remember things, like the fact that you're logged in.
The one cookie we use
- Name: subber_token
- What it does: it keeps you logged in as you move around Subber.
- What's in it: a signed code that tells us which account you're using, and whether it's a firm or a worker account. It doesn't hold your name, email, phone number or password.
- How long it lasts: up to 90 days. It's renewed as you use Subber, so it only runs out after about 3 months without use. For our staff, it runs out after about 12 hours without use. After that, you'll need to log in again.
- When it goes: when you log out, when you close your account, or when it runs out. Changing your password, or using Sign out of other devices in Account settings, logs you out on your other devices. Resetting a forgotten password logs you out on every device. If we suspend your account, you're logged out on every device too.
- Who sets it: Subber. It's only ever sent to Subber.
- Security: scripts on the page can't read it. It's only sent over a secure (HTTPS) connection.
Why there's no cookie banner
- The law says a website must ask before it stores anything on your device, unless it's strictly necessary for a service you've asked for.
- This is in regulation 6 and Schedule A1 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
- Keeping you logged in is strictly necessary. Without it, you couldn't use your account.
- Remembering a setting you chose, such as how a page is laid out, is also allowed without asking. That covers the two settings we save in your browser (see below).
- So we don't need to ask first, and we don't show a cookie banner.
What we don't use
- No analytics or visitor-counting cookies.
- No advertising or tracking cookies.
- No tracking pixels, social media buttons or chat widgets.
- No fonts, scripts or images from other companies. Our fonts are on our own server.
- Adding Subber to your home screen doesn't add any cookies.
- The public website, the pages you can see without signing in, sets no cookies.
Two settings saved in your browser
- In the app, we save two settings in your browser's local storage, so the app remembers what you chose:
- subber.companyHomeView: whether a company's home shows a list or a week
- subber.getBookedHidden: that a worker has hidden the Get booked checklist
- They're only saved when you use those options. They hold no personal information, stay on your device and are never sent to us.
- To remove them, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Other things your browser does
- Saved copies: your browser keeps copies of some of our files so pages load faster. This is normal for any website. Worker photos are kept for up to 24 hours. The copies stay on your device.
- Other services: some buttons take you elsewhere, such as Open in Maps (Google Maps), or sharing an invite by WhatsApp or email. Those services may set their own cookies, under their own policies.
- Direct Debit: setting one up takes you to Stripe's own page. Stripe may set its own cookies there, under its own policy.
If this ever changes
- We'll update this notice before we add any other cookie.
- If the law needs your consent, we'll ask first. Nothing will be set until you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
- The law lets sites count visits without asking, as long as they explain it and let you opt out. If we ever do this, we'll say so here first, with a simple, free way to opt out.
Controlling cookies
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- If you block subber_token, you won't be able to log in to Subber.
